Ras Ghareb is one of the best locations in the world for harnessing wind energy due to its high stable wind speeds averaging between 8 to 10 m/s at a height of 100m, along with the availability of large uninhabited desert areas.
Due to the scale and location of the project, the project is expected to have an environmental and social impact on its surroundings, hence a comprehensive ESIA study has been carried out:
The ESIA is necessary to obtain the necessary environmental clearance and permit from the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA).
The project is also seeking financing from International Financing Institutions (IFIs) and will align with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)’s Environmental and Social Policy (2019) and associated Performance Requirements (PR), as well as International Finance Corporation (IFC)’s Policy on Environment and Social (E&S) Sustainability (2012), IFC Performance Standards (2012), and IFC’s Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Guidelines.
